Module Syllabus Overview

This module introduces students to the concept of citizenship and democracy. You will learn how citizenship is obtained and lost as well as the importance of citizenship. Additionally you will learn how the public is able to participate in government processes and decisions.

This module has a written exam as well as two assessments. The two assessments combined have a marking weight of 20% and the exam carries 80% of the marks.

This module is at the NQF 5 level and is worth 12 credits.

  • Public participation in local government
  • Citizenship
  • Loss and acquisition of citizenship
  • Immigrants, migrants and refugees
  • Legislative history of South African Citizenship
