Module Syllabus Overview

The module covers the aspects related to employment. You will learn about what the definition of an employee is, the rights of both employees and employers, the process of discipline, the process for retrenchment, how dismissals are handled, the role of the CCMA as well as the labour courts. Also covered are strikes, protests, lockouts and the application of the Labour Relations Act (LRA), National Minimum Wage Act (NMWA) and the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA).

This module has a written exam as well as two assessments. The two assessments combined have a marking weight of 20% and the exam carries 80% of the marks.

This module is at the NQF 7 level and is worth 12 credits.
